Things
you need to know about connecting with me:
I generally only meet with the cohort when it is on the
schedule to do so. When chapters
are due, I come to the Center at 15-30 minutes before the start time of class
to pick up whatever anyone has for me. I
give very brief instructions so that I don’t infringe on the class time.
If
you are having difficulties, let me know.
I will make arrangements to meet you at the NB Center, if needed.
I
work Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
My work sometimes entails overnight trips and evening meetings.
Call me at work only if you really need to talk to me then.
I
return messages promptly. If I
don’t respond in a reasonable period of time, don’t assume that I got your
message. Contact me again.
The
best times to catch me at home Monday through Thursday is from 6 am to 8 am
and from 5:15 pm to 6:30 pm. I
have a very heavy schedule. I am
generally home Friday nights and weekends.
Please do not call after 9 pm.
I
usually check my email twice a day. Do
not append whole chapters to an email, unless I have requested that you do so.
My
web site is under construction. I
am planning to have a page for PT students.
My
computer has an internal modem. Call first, so I can enable it.
I won’t know I have received a fax, unless you tell me that you have
sent one. Don’t send me whole
chapters via fax, unless I have requested you do so.
My expectations of you:
That
you will read the Project Thesis Handbook and that you will follow the
established guidelines.
That
you will turn in hard copies of what’s due, when it’s due.
Do not fax chapters to the NB Center.
If you mail me anything, mail it to my home address.
That
you will contact me if you are having problems.
That
you will make the indicated corrections.
If you disagree with something I’ve suggested, don’t just ignore
it—give me your rationale. I am
not always right.
That
you will look for repetitive errors. I
do not take the time to mark every error that a student repeats.
I usually only mark the first one or two.
For example, if you use “I” or “me”, I’ll only circle the
first one or two in a chapter. You
need to check the remainder of the chapter.
That
you will have a folder with pockets to use to turn in your chapters.
Put your name on the outside of this folder and your most current home
and work phone numbers (email, too, if that’s how you prefer to be
contacted). Keep this information
updated.
That
if you are to do a re-write of the chapter, that you will give me both the
most recent chapter that I have marked along with the chapter you have just
corrected. I only review the
corrections.
That
every time you submit a chapter, you will give me the completed chapters,
which preceded it. For example,
you are turning in the first chapter three.
With it you should also give me completed chapters 1 and 2.
This is because I frequently need to refer to material from earlier
chapters in order to assess the current chapter for consistency.
That
you do rewrites for chapters s as soon as possible after I return them to you.
I generally come in to the Center to check my faculty mailbox once a
week. Most chapters build on the
previous one, so it is not wise to proceed to the next chapter until you have
successfully completed the previous one.
That
you will do a self-constructed survey so that you will have something to
analyze statistically. You are
required to use one of the statistical methods.
Just doing simple percentages is not enough. (Exception: Option
4—Business Plan).
What
you can expect from me:
That
I will demand your best work. Have
no fear. We will get through this
together if you hold up your end of the bargain.
That,
with rare exception, I will give you a one week turn-around on work which has
been turned in for review.
That
I will be accessible to you.
Grading:
I
evaluate the material received for spelling, punctuation, grammar, sentence
structure, and adherence to the PT Handbook requirements for the submission.
The material must make sense and apply management theory and
statistical methodology correctly.
The
number of re-writes, the number of corrections, timeliness of submissions and
the quality of the material will affect your grade.
I am required to complete a grading form for the college twice during the Project Thesis. For your information, I do not give “incompletes.”
