Library instruction
The PTA is responsible for making arrangements for the students in the
cohort to visit the Moye Library on campus prior to starting the research
for chapter two. The Campus Administrator can assist.
APA style
The students receive the most recent copy of the American Psychological
Association's style manual which gives instructions on how to properly
format papers, how to properly cite in-text, and how to properly write a
bibliography. APA style is to be used in writing the PT.
Oral presentations
Twice during the course of the MOD program, the students will give oral
presentations on their PTs. The first is a ten- minute presentation
that covers chapters one and two. The final oral presentation is
given at the very end of the MOD program. It is twenty-minutes long
and covers the entire PT.
Student evaluations
Students are given the opportunity to evaluate the PTA. This feedback is
given to the PTA. Problems There are several problems which a
PTA may encounter with students. These are a few examples of those
problems and suggested alternative to resolve them.
1) Attitude and bias--There are students who have difficulty
accepting direction from a PTA. The reasons are as varied as the
students. Having a staff person mediate the problem sometimes
works. Another alternative is changing PTAs, if possible. It
is not possible to satisfy all of the students, all of the time.
2) Poor student writing and analytical skills--This situation will
necessitate the PTA working more closely with this student to achieve an
acceptable chapter. The key is to keep the student (and PTA) from
getting frustrated. If the student is motivated to complete the PT,
it is worth the effort.
3) Plagiarism--There is a definition of plagiarism in the MOC
Catalog. Generally a PTA will become suspicious when the writing
style or phraseology used in the PT is markedly different from the
student's other writing efforts. It is strongly suggested that the
PTA discuss the situation with either the Assessment Counselor or the
Campus Director.
4) Cheating--Students have been found "copying" the PTs
written by other students. PTAs need to be aware of this possibility
and address it when it is suspected. Again, it is suggested that the
PTA discuss the situation with either the Assessment Counselor or the
Campus Director.
