<SAMPLE MOD PROJECT THESES>
----------------------------------------------------------------------

In the MOD program the students are required to complete a project thesis in order to fulfill the graduation requirements for this degree.  They have the opportunity to select one of four options, depending on their circumstances and interests.  These options include:

  • Option 1--Applied Design Intervention
  • Option 2--Grant Proposal Submission
  • Option 3--Alternative Policy Decision
  • Option 4--Business Plan

Option 1 requires that the student design and implement a solution for an identified problem.  The student who would successfully complete this project would be one that has control over the intervention.  This usually requires that the student either be a manager or one who has the full support of the manager for this change.  Students need to know that in addition to the PT, they will be required to submit a written policy, procedure, form, training manual or whatever was produced to effect this change.

Option 2 requires that the student write a proposal to have a project or program funded by a third party.  The student who would successfully complete this project would be one that either has written proposals for funding previously or one who does it for a living.  Students need to know that in addition to the PT, they will be required to submit a copy of the proposal written for submission to the funding agency.

Option 3 requires that the student submit to a "decision- maker or board of decision-makers" an extensive report recommending a course of action to solve an identified problem.  This option is the one most student select.  It is the easiest to do and requires the least amount of additional work.  Students should be encouraged to select this option.

Option 4 requires that the student write a business plan "for an existing or proposed business."  The student who would successfully complete this project would be one who either has a current business or who has a burning desire to go into business for himself or herself.  This option requires a financial analysis.  Students should be discouraged from selecting this option without justification.  Many students who start this option do not finish the project.

To preview an "A" paper for each of the options, select one:

Option 1 Applied Intervention

Option 2 Grant Proposal

Option 3 Alternative Policy Decision

Option 4 Business Plan

Please note that permission has been obtained from each of these students to use his or her paper
 for the purpose of instruction.
